New Criminal Justice Bill:

Under new laws, that will be approved by ministers today will see the onus of proof be put on head shop owners. They will have to prove in court they are not selling illegal drugs. Through this new legislation Gardi will hold new powers to allow them to shut down head shops. This legislation is believed to come into effect by the end of the summer. Justice minister Dermot Ahem will bring the legislation to the weekly cabinet meeting this morning. Following major controversy surrounding head shops the bill was drafted by senior officials from the Department of Justice and the Attorney General’s office over the past month.

Golf Club Match ended in bloodbath:

“It was like a scene from ‘The Sopranos’,” said Judge Matthews at Dublin’s Circuit Civil Court yesterday. The court heard that a gathering to watch a football match in a Lucan golf club turned into a bloodbath. Alan Homes from Terenure claimed he had been head butted by a fellow club member in the toilets following a dispute about a bet of €100. The court heard that there are no witnesses to the case and that the two men are suing each other for €38,000 in damages for assault. As the case is without any witnesses the judge said it is one mans word against the other. The case continues today.
